Head Coach Gregg Parini

Gregg Parini is in his 20th year as head coach of the Denison University Men’s and Women’s swimming programs. During the 2000-01 season, Parini led Denison to its first ever NCAA Division III National Championship. Other coaching highlights include:

•Seven-Time NCAA National Swimming Coach of the Year;

•Seven-Time NCAC Swimming Coach of the Year;

•led Denison teams to 39 consecutive top-nine finishes at NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships including 28 consecutive top-six finishes;

•coached 162 All-Americans to 1388 All-American performances;

•coached swimmers to 42 NCAA relay and individual titles;

•coached 18 swimmers to USS Senior National Qualifying performances;

•coached two swimmers to US Olympic Trial Qualifying performances in 8 events;

•coached 38 consecutive Denison teams that earned Team Academic All-American honors;

•coached 185 Academic All-Americans at Denison ;

•led Denison ’s Women’s Swimming Team to it first-ever NCAA title (2001);

• led Denison ’s Men’s Swimming Team to its first-ever NCAC title (1997)

- coached 18 NCAA post graduate scholars.

- coached 1 swimmer to Olympic berth (Athens-2004)

Upon enrollment at Kenyon College in 1978, Parini joined the Lords’ swim team and began his impressive collegiate résumé. Along with being a member of four NCAA National Championship teams at Kenyon, he became and 18-time All-America and 7-time National Champion. He was also a team tri-captain in 1982 and a 2-time Division II All-America in water polo for his junior and senior campaigns. Kenyon also voted him Most Valuable Swimmer in 1981 and Senior Athlete of the Year in 1982. These accomplishments and accolades lead him to his induction into the Kenyon College Athletic Hall of Fame in May, 2002.

After graduating, Parini traveled back to Michigan to attend graduate school at Michigan State .In 1986 he earned is M.A. in Counseling Psychology. In 1985 he took the head coaching position for both the boy’s and girl’s swimming teams in East Lancing, MI. The next year he was off again, this time to join the ranks of college. He accepted the head coaching position at Mount Union College , in Alliance, OH, were he served as coach for the 1986-87 school year. During 1988, Parini also served as national swimming coach and advisor for the Isle of Mauritius as their swimming teams prepared for the 1988 All-Africa Games (Nairobi, Kenya).

Parini then left to become the Head Swimming coach of both the men and women’s programs at Denison University .During his nineteen-year tenure at the college, Parini serves as an Associate Professor of Physical Education,  an academic advisor to students, and department chair.

Parini has established a tradition of academic excellence along with quality swimming. His attention not only to the sport, but to the education itself is evident with 185 academic All-Americas since 1986.The accomplishments of his teams and the constant improvement of not only their performance in the pool, but their performance in the classroom, proves that he accentuates time management with his student-athletes.

In addition to his coaching efforts, Parini has also made an impact in the community of Granville. He is the founder, owner and director of The Swimming Clinic, a clinic for age-group swimmers. He is a volunteer Youth Baseball and Hockey coach for both the North Newark Little League and the Newark Ice Hockey Association. He has served as a Youth Group Leader for the St. Lukes Episcopal Church.

Coach Parini resides in Granville with his wife, Alice, and their six sons: Joseph, Solomon, Gabe, Simon, Andrew, and Ted.
